USIU history continued
USIU had merged with the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) to form Alliant International University, in 2001, however USIU-Africa successfully sought to separate itself in 2005 and it became an
independent institution with its own accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in
2008.
One of the most
outstanding buildings in USIU- A the imposing ultra-modern library and information center occupies
1000 square meters was completed in 2007 at a cost of a whooping Ksh. 550
million and was partly funded through the US
Agency for International Development (USAID)’s ASHA program.
In 2009, the former library was refurbished and housed the School of Science and Technology and renamed Lillian K. Beam Building in honour of the visionary former Executive Director
In 2014, the university rebranded, reverting to its former United States International University – Africa.
