INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

There is a lot of pressure on universities today to be more diverse and inclusive – not just in terms of race but also gender, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, social class, national origin, and more. The Nairobi Campus of United States International University (USIU), a San Diego-based college, was established in 1969. The United States International University, Nairobi Campus, became a distinct university in 1999, renaming itself USIU Africa. The university's mission is to assist individuals in better understanding, acquiring information, and developing skills for functioning in a globalized, culturally varied world. Because of its diversity, the school is seen as a friendly atmosphere for everyone interested in applying. An educational institution's inclusive purpose indicates something progressive and significant about its campus: it values diversity and will enable students to express themselves as they see fit. U.S.I.U is a university home to approximately 70 nationalities from different continents with different diverse cultures. The university has  multiple programs, cubs and events that lets students express themselves, celebrate their cultures, religions and let them gain experiences from other places in different parts of the world.

The university offers a lot of programmes and co-curriculum activities that help promote the inclusivity. One of the programmes offered by the university is the Student exchange programme. The purpose of the program is to assist students in the awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of both the diversity and commonality of cultures. The program enables students to take a few classes at ‘host’ institutions, but not to study for the whole degree program. All course credits earned at host institutions are transferred to students’ ‘home’ institutions’ transcripts. The Student Exchange is open to undergraduate students only in their Sophomore, Junior or early Senior years (with 30 units or more). A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above is required with a good standing in Academics & Financial status. The prospective student must also have no history of disciplinary issues.

This gives students the ability to travel to different continents while still pursuing their degree. It also encourages good performance with the 3.0 GPA .
